The Futility of Fighting

Have you ever won an argument? I mean, have you ever actually changed someone else’s mind?  I would venture to guess not.  After all, it is their mind, and if it changes, it is because they did the changing.  The truth is…...  arguing  is an exercise in futility.

When we are in the midst of an argument, the ineffectiveness is difficult to recognize but, when we are observers of an argument, the pointlessness becomes clear.

There is absolutely no positive consequence in arguing.   On the other hand, a healthy discussion where opinions and ideas  are shared can be useful.  When people are talking AND listening, actual communication is taking place.  An argument consists of two people who are talking and not listening.   I believe there may be a reason that we have two ears and one mouth - listening is twice as important ( and much more difficult) than talking.
